Retrofit Scope

Replace the legacy CO2 beam source and beam delivery with a fiber laser architecture while retaining suitable mechanical assets.

Existing system diagnosis

The survey follows the TRUMPF CO2 beam path from resonator to cutting head, then records the gantry condition, gas train, chiller capacity and electrical supply before a fiber source is selected.

  • Record the CO2 resonator, mirrors, bellows and head mounting geometry.
  • Measure axis repeatability and inspect the frame for the intended cutting envelope.
  • Confirm gas pressure, cooling duty, extraction and incoming electrical capacity.

Retrofit architecture

The CO2 resonator and beam-delivery hardware are removed while suitable mechanics are retained; a fiber source, matched cutting head, cooling circuit and control interfaces are engineered as one machine-specific package.

  • Adapt the head mount and cable routing for the selected fiber cutting head.
  • Replace obsolete optical-path hardware with protected fiber delivery and interlocks.
  • Integrate source, chiller, gas valves and safety signals with the chosen controller.

Commissioning and production acceptance

Commissioning proves safe motion, source enable logic and process stability before production parts are released. Acceptance is based on agreed materials, thicknesses, edge quality and repeatable cycle time rather than nominal source power alone.

  • Validate safety circuits, source interlocks and emergency-stop recovery.
  • Tune pierce, lead-in and cutting parameters on the agreed material set.
  • Run repeat samples and document dimensions, edge quality and operator handover.

Typical Customer Challenges

01

Aging CO2 source, beam path and gas consumption limit uptime and operating efficiency.

02

Rising maintenance cost and unpredictable downtime

03

Need for higher power, easier operation or current process functions

Retrofit Engineering

Compatibility comes before configuration

Every project requires a machine-specific assessment. Final hardware, software and achievable performance depend on the existing mechanical accuracy, drive system, I/O, electrical cabinet, safety circuit and selected laser power.

Assessment Checklist

  • Fiber laser source and target power selection
  • Cutting head, chiller, gas and electrical integration
  • Laser source, cutting head and chiller
  • Electrical drawings and safety circuit
  • Target materials, thickness and laser power

Project Deliverables

  • Machine compatibility report
  • Retrofit architecture and bill of materials
  • Electrical and I/O integration plan
  • Control, safety, motion and cutting process commissioning
  • Operator training and handover records
  • Remote support after commissioning
